The School
St Andrew’s, Turi is highly respected in Kenya and regarded as one of the leading international schools in East Africa. Numbering approximately 570 pupils, it has two semi-autonomous schools: a Preparatory School of 240 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of 330 pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. It is coeducational and the great majority of pupils are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to ‘live and lead with integrity’.

The Role
St Andrew’s Senior School is seeking to appoint two Pastoral Graduate Assistant who will assist the House Parents in the boarding house as well as support with duties around the school.
The Graduate Assistant key areas of responsibility will be:-
Responsibilities
The overarching responsibilities of the Pastoral Graduate Assistant include:
- Supporting the School’s Christian ethos
- Enhancing the pastoral care of students
- Reinforcing co-curricular and sporting provision (where necessary)
- Administrative duties (e.g. DDT, Breakfast/Lunch, Walkabouts, service, etc
Duties
The principal duties of the Graduate Assistant are to:
Ethos
- Uphold the School’s Christian ethos in both principle and practice, joining staff and pupils in prayer where appropriate
- Support Chaplaincy events
Pastoral Care
- Work within one of the boarding house teams, including pastoral duties in he evening and weekends
- Act as a role model in all areas to pupils within the boarding house around the
- Work with Houseparents’ to support individual pupils as needs arise
- Attend a weekly Boarding House team meeting
- Assist with registration of students
- To support the Houseparent with the admin tasks that are needed for boarding
Academic Support
- Act as a tutor for a group of pupils if required
- Cover academic lessons when teachers are absent
- To work within a department of choice
Co-Curricular and Sport
- Assist in the running of Co-curricular/sport
- Assist in instructing, teaching and coaching student games during E lessons, practice and competition
- Must have experience and understanding of Hockey and/or
- It would be an added advantage for the candidate to also have skills and experience in Adventure and Creative Arts (Drama, Design and Technology, Art and Music)
- Participate in the provision of the adventure program
- Support the running of the weekend activities program
- Help with the service program
Person Specification

They will have to have a degree in education or related field.

Experience of working in a School environment, or in boarding, would be desirable, but not essential. Above all, what matters is a commitment to help us provide a world-class education for our children.
