CONSULTANT – MEDIA VISIBILITY AND STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS

Terms of Reference:
Provision of services and content production to strengthen media visibility and strategic communications for the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT in Africa
Objective:
The objective of this consultancy is to lead, develop, and implement media engagement and content production activities to enhance the visibility and positioning of the Alliance’s work in Africa.
Scope of Work:
- Lead and develop media engagement strategies to strengthen the Alliance’s visibility across
- international, national, and local media in Africa.
- Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets, and develop and manage a comprehensive media contacts database.
- Develop and pitch relevant and timely stories aligned with the Alliance’s priorities.
- Coordinate and facilitate media interviews and field visits to Alliance project sites to secure high-quality media coverage.
- Collaborate with the Nairobi communications team to develop and deliver communication materials, including blogs, photographs, and videos, as required.
- Monitor, track, and analyze media coverage and prepare regular summaries and reports.
- Engage with specialized and local-language media outlets to broaden outreach.
- Develop country-level media landscape profiles, identifying key information channels relevant to beneficiaries and policymakers.
- Adapt and curate media content into social media outputs to enhance digital visibility.
- Support and contribute to media outreach and communications capacity-building initiatives in the region.
- Develop and implement a strategic media positioning plan for the Africa Managing Director as a spokesperson on priority issues.
Education qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
- A master’s degree may be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in media relations, strategic communications, content development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or development/research institutions in Africa.
Terms of employment
The initial Consultancy contract will be for 6 Months.
