Description

 

Main Purpose

 

Perform counseling and/or education
sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF
protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition.

 

Accountabilities

 

       Identify the psychosocial,
socio-economic and administrative needs for patients

       Actively promote the
availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group
counselling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families
(when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within
the project scope.

       Refer patients to other
specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in
order to propose the best support available.

       Participate in the creation
of any material needed for counselling activities and look after it.

       Keep files and statistics
of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and
discuss special cases with other counsellors, preserving confidentiality.

       Inform line manager of any
problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.

       Take active part in
trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager, when
necessary, in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about
mental health /psychosocial issues.

       Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.

 

 

 

MSF Section/Context Specific
Accountabilities

 

       Provide basic mental health and other specified health counselling
(e.g. psychoeducation, psychological first aid, problem solving, occupational
activities) through individual and/or group sessions for mild to moderate
mental health conditions and/or high mental distress as well as specifically
defined other health topics.

       Provide adherence counselling for patients with chronic conditions,
ensuring a strong collaboration with the medical team and social workers to
address the patient’s needs in a holistic way.

       Provide supportive mental health counselling for survivors of SV and
GBV in accordance with the MSF guidelines.

       Closely collaborate with the medical team to identify patients with
mental health distress for further support.

       Detect and refer cases based on the identified needs and the referral
pathways following the MSF communication lines.

       Engage with recipients of the MSF health services and the community at
large, individual and/or groups, to raise awareness on mental wellbeing and
the available MSF mental health services through awareness and health
promotion activities.

       Empower persons with lived experiences of mental disorders and/or
distress to reflect and share their stories and promote community coping
activities (peer support).

       Support and engage in providing trainings on mental health related
topics to MSF staff and associated individuals (e.g. peers, partner
organisations).

       In close collaboration with all staff, identify and address stigma
and/or discrimination within the team to promote inclusive health care.
Jointly engage in coordinated stigma reducing activities.

       Assist to identify and highlight the mental health needs of each
group/community that the project serves with a special focus on vulnerable
and minority populations.

       Ensure that confidentiality, privacy and dignity are kept for patients
served according to MSF standards and national laws.

       Document and report all conducted work, group and individual,
educational, and counselling in a timely manner following the MSF data
collection and data privacy guidelines.

       Share feedback and timely communicate any challenges and achievements
with the MHAM.

Requirements

Education

Counseling,
social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma. HTS training
desirable.

Experience

1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO
desirable. Experience with key vulnerable populations desirable.

Languages                                        

Kiswahili
and English essential.

As this role involves service delivery for key and
vulnerable populations, experience working with key population communities or
lived experience within these communities will be considered an asset,
provided candidates meet the essential qualifications for the position. We
