Guide Trainer – Luxury Safari Collection – Kenya & Tanzania (East Africa)

Kendrick Recruitment is searching for an exceptional Guide Trainer for one of East Africa’s most celebrated collections of boutique luxury safari lodges and camps, spanning iconic locations across Kenya and Tanzania.

With a deep-rooted commitment to conservation, community and authentic East African hospitality, this is a group where guiding excellence is not just expected – it is a core part of the guest promise. This roaming role will see you working across the full portfolio in both Kenya and Tanzania, mentoring and developing guiding teams to deliver world-class safari experiences consistently across every property.

Please note: This is a single, live-in roaming role. The successful candidate will be based across multiple properties in Kenya and Tanzania on a 3-months-on / 1-month-off rotation. Lodge accommodation is provided when in-house. Valid work authorisation for both Kenya and Tanzania will be arranged by the employer.

Minimum Requirements:

FGASA Professional Field Guide – essential

Full Lead Trails Guide qualification – essential

Valid ARH certificate – essential

Valid First Aid certification – essential

Valid PrDP – essential

Minimum 5 to 8 years’ field guiding experience in a luxury lodge environment – essential

Proven experience as a Guide Trainer or Head Guide with a strong mentorship and development focus in a luxury lodge setting – essential and non-negotiable

East African guiding experience (Kenya and/or Tanzania) – highly preferred

Familiarity with East African wildlife, ecosystems and habitats advantageous

Familiarity with KPSGA, Tanzania Tourism licensing or equivalent East African qualification frameworks advantageous

Demonstrated ability to design, implement and assess guiding training programmes

Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Swahili advantageous

Comfortable travelling extensively and living across multiple remote lodge environments for extended rotations

Culturally sensitive, adaptable and able to build rapport with diverse, multinational teams

Valid passport with no travel restrictions – essential

Stable career history with outstanding, contactable references

Key Responsibilities:

Assess current guiding standards across the collection’s properties in Kenya and Tanzania

Design and implement structured training programmes aligned to the group’s guiding philosophy and luxury standards

Conduct in-field mentorship, coaching and practical assessments with guiding teams

Develop SOPs, training manuals and assessment frameworks for guide development

Facilitate inter-property knowledge sharing and best practice across the portfolio

Monitor guide performance and provide structured feedback and individual development plans

Assist with guide recruitment assessments where required

Champion conservation messaging, ecological knowledge and interpretive storytelling across all properties

Report regularly to senior management on guiding standards, training progress and team development

Package:

Salary: USD 4,000 NETT per month

Rotation: 3 months on / 1 month off

Live-in: Lodge accommodation provided when in-house

Single occupancy

Work permits for Kenya and Tanzania facilitated by the employer
