Description
Our client, a mining company based in Chemase, Nandi County, is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Electrician to join their operations team in Chemase, Nandi County, Kenya. This is a critical role that sits at the heart of plant reliability and operational continuity. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems across the mine site, spanning the processing plant, workshops, offices and employee housing.
This is a hands-on leadership role that demands deep technical expertise, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work independently while guiding and developing a team of junior electricians. Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Operations
-
Maintain, repair, and install electrical systems across plant equipment including crushers, conveyors, pumps, compressors, generators, and processing machinery

Maintain and troubleshoot site power distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), and control panels
-
Diagnose and rectify electrical faults and breakdowns swiftly to minimise plant downtime
-
Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative maintenance schedules
-
Ensure critical electrical spares are adequately stocked, tracked, and managed
Compliance & Safety
-
Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPRA, and internal site HSE standards at all times
-
Liaise with Kenya Power (KPLC) on matters relating to power supply, outages, and regulatory compliance
-
Maintain accurate and up-to-date electrical drawings, technical documentation, and maintenance records
Team Leadership & Collaboration
-
Supervise, mentor, and allocate tasks to junior electricians and apprentices
-
Collaborate closely with mechanical, plant, and operations teams to support seamless day-to-day operations
-
Support new installations, plant upgrades, and site expansion projects
-
Participate in emergency call-outs and standby rotations as required.
Requirements
-
Diploma or Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Electrical Installation

Valid EPRA Electrical Practising Licence (mandatory)

Minimum 10 years of hands-on industrial electrical experience

Proven experience in a mining, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment preferred

Strong working knowledge of MCCs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), PLCs (basic troubleshooting), generators, and power distribution systems

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams

Strong fault-finding and root-cause analysis capability

Direct experience in a mining environment, specifically with crushing and processing plant operations

Knowledge of automation and control systems

Experience with solar, hybrid, and generator power systems
