Carrying
out cleaning activities in the mission according to MSF standards and
procedures in order to ensure hygiene and disinfection of materials and
surfaces
Accountabilities
•Performing
tasks related to hygiene and disinfection according to protocols applied in
the service, knowing and applying specific hygiene protocols and security
rules. This includes but are not limited to the following:
•Maintaining clean and disinfected, the
infrastructures allocated to his/her position including the furniture, doors,
walls and floor and some medical material (rooms of patients, of
consultation, laboratory, waiting room, staff room, storage room, kitchen,
bathroom and latrines) applying specific protocols and using the tools and
equipment provided. Cleaning floors, equipment, beds, toilets and showers
according to protocols and schedule
•Collecting
and evacuating waste produced by medical structures to the designated site,
previously sorted by medical staff and emptying out dustbins as often as
necessary to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment
•Raising
awareness on hygiene and sanitation measures amongst patients, visitors,
staff, mothers to use correctly the water distribution points, latrines, hand
washing points and washing areas in collaboration with the nursing and health
promotion team
•Filling
all water containers every morning (drinking water and hand-washing points)
and refilling when half full and for hand washing, ensuring soap is available
•Installing
mosquito nets as required for in-patient beds and carrying out laundry
activities according to protocols
•Ensuring
proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided.
Ensuring availability of hygiene and sanitation products, and draws up orders
for on-going needs
•Reporting any replenishment, repair or maintenance
work needed related to hygiene to the supervisor, as well as any relevant
information related to his/her responsibilities
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
1. Cleaning and environmental hygiene
·Carry out daily cleaning of all
assigned areas in the drop-in centre, including:
oConsultation rooms
oWaiting areas
oToilets and showers
oHandwashing points
oLaundry or clothes-distribution areas, if applicable
oOffices and staff areas
oFloors, doors, handles, tables, chairs, and frequently
touched surfaces
·Ensure regular disinfection of
high-touch surfaces, especially during periods of increased infectious
disease risk.
·Follow cleaning schedules and
infection prevention and control protocols agreed by the project.
·Ensure that cleaning is done in a
way that protects the dignity, privacy, and safety of service users.
2. Water, sanitation, and hygiene
facilities
·Monitor the cleanliness and
functionality of toilets, showers, handwashing stations, and water points.
·Ensure that soap, water, toilet
paper, menstrual hygiene materials, and other hygiene supplies are available
where required.
·Immediately report blockages,
leaks, broken taps, damaged latrines, or other WASH-related problems to the
logistics supervisor.
·Support safe and appropriate use of
hygiene facilities by service users.
3. Waste management
·Collect, segregate, and dispose of
waste according to MSF/project procedures.
·Ensure that general waste, medical
waste, sharp waste, and other hazardous waste are separated correctly where
relevant.
·Replace bin liners and keep waste
containers clean and covered.
·Support safe temporary storage and
handover of waste for collection or final disposal.
·Report any unsafe waste-management
practices or risks immediately.
4. Infection prevention and control
·Apply standard infection prevention
and control measures during all cleaning and hygiene activities.
·Use personal protective equipment
correctly, such as gloves, masks, boots, aprons, or eye protection when
required.
·Prepare, use, and store cleaning
and disinfection products safely, following dilution and safety instructions.
·Report exposure incidents, spills,
contamination, or suspected infection risks to the line manager.
·Participate in IPC briefings,
trainings, and refreshers when organized.
5. Hygiene promotion and user
support
·Encourage service users to use
handwashing points, toilets, showers, and waste bins correctly and
respectfully.
·Support basic hygiene promotion
activities in coordination with health promotion, nursing, or outreach teams.
·Identify hygiene-related concerns
among service users and report them to the appropriate team member.
·Maintain a respectful,
non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive attitude toward all service users,
including people in vulnerable situations.
6. Stock and supplies management
·Monitor daily use of cleaning
materials, disinfectants, PPE, soap, and hygiene items.
·Inform the supervisor in advance
when supplies are running low. Place orders by 24Th of every month
through the supervisor
·Store cleaning products,
disinfectants, and tools safely, away from service users .
·Keep cleaning equipment clean,
organized, and in good condition.
·Support basic stock counts when
requested.
7. Safety and dignity in the
drop-in centre
·Help maintain a clean, calm, and
safe environment for service users and staff.
·Respect confidentiality and avoid
discussing personal information about service users.
·Report safety risks, protection
concerns, aggressive behaviour, damaged infrastructure, or hazards to the
supervisor.
·Ensure that cleaning activities do
not obstruct access to essential services.
·Be attentive to the needs of women,
children, elderly people, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable
groups when using hygiene facilities.
8. Teamwork and communication
·Work closely with medical, health
promotion, logistics, protection, and social support teams as relevant.
·Attend team meetings or briefings
when requested.
·Communicate clearly with the
supervisor about completed tasks, challenges, incidents, or supply needs.
·Support other team members during
busy periods, outbreaks, distributions, or emergency activities when
requested and within role limits.
9. Reporting and documentation
·Complete cleaning checklists,
waste-management records, or stock-use forms as required.
·Report maintenance needs, hygiene
risks, and IPC concerns in a timely manner.
·Contribute to monitoring of hygiene
standards in the centre.
·Inform the supervisor of any
incident affecting cleanliness, safety, or service continuity.
