Description
About Fika:
Fika (formerly Bridges to Prosperity) exists to innovate cost-effective rural infrastructural solutions through advocacy, evidence, and technical assistance to promote safe access for geographically isolated communities through partnership with governments and donors. We believe that it is within our grasp to solve poverty caused by rural isolation.
Job purpose
The Director of Knowledge and Learning Systems is a newly created role at the heart of Fika’s organizational strategy. The work spans three interconnected areas: building the internal knowledge management frameworks, governance, and culture that allow institutional knowledge (spanning organizational to evidentiary) to be captured, accessed, and retained across a global team; serving as administrator of Fika’s Box environment, ensuring our primary content platform is organized, governed, and used effectively; and developing and executing Fika’s external knowledge sharing and learning strategy to position our expertise in the broader ecosystem of rural access and systems change. Together, these responsibilities make the Director the architect of the organizational and knowledge systems through which Fika captures what it knows, operationalizes that knowledge across a global team, and shares it with the world.
This is a founding role designed for a strong individual contributor who is energized by building from the ground up and collaborating actively and frequently with diverse teams across a global, matrixed organization.
Duties and responsibilities
External Knowledge Sharing & Thought Leadership (40%)
Develops and leads Fika’s strategy to harness and disseminate organizational rural access expertise and knowledge to reach governments, partners, funders, and practitioners in the global development space
- Develop and lead Fika’s external knowledge sharing strategy, defining how Fika’s technical and programmatic expertise reaches governments, NGOs, funders, and practitioners working in rural access and systems change.
- Build and maintain frameworks for packaging Fika’s field learnings into accessible, high-quality knowledge products (case studies, toolkits, practice guides, training curricula, and research briefs).
- Serve as an internal consultant on translating complex work into shareable knowledge assets, co-leading knowledge harnessing initiatives and working across departments as needed.
- Partner with leadership and collaborate across departments to position Fika as a credible knowledge hub for sustainable rural networked transport infrastructure in alignment with Fika’s systems catalyst identity.
- Identify and steward relationships with knowledge-sharing platforms, networks, and learning communities relevant to Fika’s mission areas.
- Lead the coordination of online knowledge dissemination channels, including defining content, functionality, and organizational requirements for web-based delivery of curricula, technical resources, and practice tools, working with internal or external web teams to bring those requirements to life.
- Develop and oversee learning offerings that translate Fika’s expertise into structured capacity-building resources for external audiences.
- Note: it is anticipated that when the Internal Knowledge Management frameworks and governance structure are stood up, the external aspects of this role will increase to 60%
Internal Knowledge Management (40%)
Designs and implements the internal knowledge management systems, governance, and culture that enable Fika’s institutional knowledge to be captured, retained, and accessed across a distributed global team
- Design and implement Fika’s internal knowledge management strategy, including how organizational knowledge is captured, organized, maintained, and accessed by a global staff.
- Lead the development of knowledge management policies, standards, and governance frameworks, establishing clear roles, retention & destruction practices, and processes that scale.
- Create systems that reduce knowledge loss during staff transitions and ensure institutional memory is retained and accessible.
- Champion a culture of documentation and learning across the organization, partnering with department heads to embed good knowledge practices into day-to-day work.
- Facilitate cross-team knowledge sharing, including after-action reviews, lessons-learned processes, and communities of practice.
- Develop and maintain a repository of process standards and templates to support consistent execution.
- Design and maintain a hub that consolidates frequently used tools and links, reducing time spent searching across disparate platforms.
- Collaborate across departments (e.g., Talent, Finance, Data Analytics, and other teams) to identify and lead systems, processes, and product improvements for internal knowledge sharing and dissemination.
- Note: it is anticipated that when the Internal Knowledge Management frameworks and governance structure are stood up, the internal aspects of this role will decrease to 20%
Box Platform Administration (20%)
Serves as Fika’s Box administrator, ensuring the organization’s primary content platform is governed, organized, and used effectively in support of knowledge access and sharing
- Serve as Fika’s Box administrator, overseeing folder structure, permissions, governance, and user management.
- Develop and enforce Box governance policies (naming conventions, retention schedules, access controls, and usage standards) in alignment with Fika’s data governance framework.
- Train and support staff in effective Box use, ensuring the platform supports knowledge access and sharing.
- Evaluate and optimize Box features, including Box AI, Hubs, and integrations, to improve how Fika captures and retrieves organizational knowledge.

- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing knowledge management systems from the ground up, not just maintaining existing ones.

- Background in instructional design, learning systems, or curriculum development.
- Experience coordinating web presence or digital content strategy, including defining requirements for website functionality, information architecture, and content organization in service of organizational objectives.
